HOW TO ACT INDONESIAN by SACHA STEVENSON

Sacha Stevenson shared her tips on how to act Indonesian on you tube. Sacha is from Canada who loves Indonesia and lives in Indo since 2001.

Some of Indonesians viewers might not agree, not totally agree or totally disagree with how she portrayed Indonesian with its stereotypes on her videos while some others able to see her opinion and her personal observation as an expatriate in Indo for 12 years and creativity in a positive way instead the opposite. I myself respect her freedom of speech etc, so just chillax and enjoy. :)

I've watched all her videos and I personally think they are quite entertaining and made me laugh. She is more Indonesian than Indonesian lols. I also impressed with how fluent her Betawi accent is, also her knowledge about other locals languages spoken in Indonesia including Sundanese besides ofc, her Bahasa.

Almost all the vids were made in English subtitle so if you are not familiar with Bahasa [Indonesian National Language] you wont find difficulties to understand her videos and oh if you keep hearing Sacha say the word "Bule" and wondering what that means, Bule [pronounced [ˈbule]] is Indonesian words that just means white people. It is by no means derogative term. People who thinks it is an insult clearly don't know what they are talking about.

You know, talk about You tube,

Who doesn't know this video-sharing website. The only website on the internet today that allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos.
Many have use the benefits of You tube and one of them is as a powerful media to promoting ideas, talents and creativities. These videos could be a gate for anyone who wants to enter entertainment world and so in Indonesia.

Indi and new musician who started their career from locals cafes to radios like Raisa or Cakra Khan for instance, their talents might stay hidden and could not goes nationally as today or internationally in the near future if those kind peoples who discover and appreciate their music didn't uploaded them on You Tube on their early career as I myself couldn't find Carka's official vid when I wrote about him back then here so there's a question that does tickles me as I watched Sacha's vids today and my question izzzzz....,while these "How to act like Indonesian" video series is getting attention from the you tube viewers, will the world-or Indonesia in particularly, see Sacha Stevenson as another "You tube star" in Indonesia Entertainment Industry soon? hm :)

Well, I personally think she is smart, funny, entertaining, CAN SING, plus she speaks Indonesian fluently. So lets see..um, Trans TV for a start maybe? :D

Anyways, these below are vids I like most from Sacha you tube vids series so far. You can ofc go to her channel for more of her "How to act like Indonesian" vids, she uploading the new one every week with her 5 tips on each and like Sacha said, "Sok subscribe!" :D

Sacha on her 5 tips of  How to act Indonesian

 Sacha on corruption

Sacha on Hijab

Sacha on 27 Indonesian Swear words

Hope you enjoy Sacha's vids and stay tune for more updates at Mignonesia!

Happy birthday, BISCUIT!

Not happy birthday to you or to me but to my one of my blogs, BISCUIT!

Yep, exactly this date last year [10-11-2011]  Biscuit- one tough cookie, was launched.

Dang, look at the date! did you see what I see? I just realized that when I typing this! cool hein?! :)

Need to thank to "Anonymous" who posted comment on one of Biscuit's post yesterday, because of him/her I checked all my blog posts and found out that today is Biscuit Ist Anniversary.

If you haven't familiar with my blog Biscuit, Biscuit is collection of jokes,one-line jokes, funny stories, short funny stories, saying images, funny images, funny saying images, cute image, cute funny image, all type of quotes and sayings. Some I cooked myself and the rest, I found across the web.

Its funny actually since the blog was created mainly to store all image saying and joke I found on the net-  there was one time when I got so addicted with them and still till now. I kept them on my folder just for fun purpose till one day I realized I got too many of them, waaay too many and though I better put them somewhere else to save the space on my laptop's memory or I'll get a rehab and a blog is the first thing that come on my mind. HAHA.

Call me an artist, I draw attention. At first the blog was a private blog till I decided to make it public and I thats when I named it Biscuit.

Why biscuit? coz I like biscuit. Especially Oreo with the toothpaste cream- just don't eat them too much or you'll be a whoreo.:P  And to me, those image sayings, one line jokes etc that I found on the web are like biscuit- "snack" that accompany me while browsing the web.

But this biscuit- I hope, the one tough cookie- a durable and robust cookie and I think I have good reason to be optimistic when I checked my blog status yesterday, Biscuit first year all time pageviews  is 1.48.803

For me who started the blog out of fun, the all time pageview on this screenshot I took yesterday like shown below, was like WOW!

Wish I could thanks each one of you who have visited my blog during its first year. Hope you all found something worth to share and make Biscuit as one of your source.

I am not sure if I use the right term here but I'll use it anyway ehehehe; See, I think there's 8 sheets on my blog Biscuit so far which each sheet contains100 blog posts.

I prefer to take the most viewed post from the blog sheet coz its shows how Biscuit got that up and down page view from its first launched.

Traffic is something that any blogger paid attention to most and that works same with me.I lie if I said I don't bother it. My blogs clearly are not a secret and they are on INTERNET.

I have to admit that it does felt very rewarding when you see your traffic goes up to certain level or when you find one of you blog post or your blog link on the first page on Google search result. It sure took a lot of hard work and patience to get into that level but I enjoy the traffic's up and down process. I think its normal and I prefer not to worry too much about it. I just want to enjoy blogging.

Anyway, below is the list of the number one most viewed posts that I took from each sheet. And also the ones that has not much page views BUT I personally fav.

Btw, I took the screen shoots yesterday and here they are! [click the title and it should direct you to where it posted at Biscuit]

1.This post is from First Sheet. Definitely my fav and glad It could reached 2.134 pageviews since it was posted till yesterday.

2. From Sheet two. This is a good one and it reached 1.488 pageviews so far.

3.Number one viewed post on Sheet 3 with total 3.631 pageviews.I am not surprise if this post got your attention. I found this witty funny quote hilarious myself, sounds really cheeky LOL. Another one I definitely fav also!

4. 324 pageviews taken from Sheet 4. Can you see it?! :)

As you saw on one of my audience chart above, Biscuit got more visit from the United State than from Indonesia- where I from.

That can be caused by many factors but as far as I know Indonesians are not so familiar with sharing image saying, funny image, one line joke on social media so I guess they don't browse much. huh?.. It can be shown by the rareness of saying image in Indonesian Language [Bahasa] when you try to search it on the web as well. Well, at least maybe not until recently coz now I can find one or two saying images in Bahasa- on my fb feed for example which ofc shared by Indonesian folks but the quantity still not as many as those made in English version.

I am lucky coz I got many people on my fb from many different countries so I could find saying images translated in French and other language too like Spain etc but most of them are actually the translation from the English version.

But how about Joke? I think many Indonesian likes it. They don't share much on social media either but you can find it on the web with the right keyword.

On the other hand one line joke in Indonesian language started to become very popular now. Those one line joke accounts in Twiiterland indicate it.

Anyway, On my screenshot below is so far, the only post in Indonesian at Biscuit  its a very very funny story but you need to understand bahasa and some local terms to understand the funny parts of it.
Wish I could post more of this in the future.

This is absolutely one of my fav and its on Sheet 4, it got 63 pageviews- seriously, why?! I need to promote this again later!

5. Sitting at number one on page 5 is this post below, got 764 pageviews so far.

Here's my fav on Sheet 5, only 16 pageviews. O.o! that's funny coz I think this one is FUNNY!

6.Sum thing wong with the grammar but this is number one most viewed post on Sheet 7 with 200 pageviews.

7. And All bad girl goes to London. What else?:) I always found one like joke like this, hope non gets offended. This number one most viewed post taken from sheet 7 with 49 pageviews.

"Loyal husbands will go straight to Heaven..and Unloyal will enjoy Heaven on Earth !! The choice is yours" _ Bangkok tourism

8. Totally agreed. Biscuit also likes to give one of those smiles to you. Number one most viewed post on Sheet 8. 18 pageviews. Will it gets more views? You decide. :)

"If you see someone without smile give them one of yours"

I used to posted lots of funny short stories on my early 3 months at Biscuit. Biscuit all time pageviews back than was below 5000.

Here's one of them,  "Elisabeth"  from Sheet 8. Tot 16 pageviews since it first posted but its my fav and I think I'll need to promote older posts like this one later.  Damn funny! :D

There was a married couple sleeping and a psycho killer entered into their house.
The killer put a knife to the neck of the woman and said, “I like to know the names of my victims before I kill them, what is your name?”
”My name is Elizabeth,” the woman replied.
The killer said, “You remind me of my mother who was also named Elizabeth, so I can’t kill you.”
The killer then turned to the husband and asked, “What is your name?”
“My name’s Phillip, but my friends call me Elizabeth too."

Well you've saw some of the posts on Biscuit, browse around to get more and share! share! share!

Biscuit is hosted by Chef Mig- a character I created for the blog.

Sadly, Chef Mig always had trouble uploading his own picture and ended up like this,

so he decided to replace it instead with this cute little doll like this,

Chef Mig hopes you like it since there's no appropriate profile picture that can be sexier than his.:P
He said he will cook more biscuits for you to share away. Go have one and pick your own flavor!

Happy Independence Day, Indonesia!

Indonesia. Image Copyright by Ario Wibisono source 500px.com

Indonesia will celebrate its 67th independence on August 17th, 2012.

After 67 years of Independence, Indonesia has made lots of progress but on the same time, the country is struggling to cope with various nation problems; corruption, poverty etc.

There's still many good reason for Indonesians to stay optimist and proud of their country as we fought for our freedom, it didn't handed to us. Hope Indonesia will keep on progressing in the future with cleaner and better government, prosperous society with lots of love and peace.

In the meanwhile, take a look some of unique ways of celebrating independence day tradition in Indonesia.

Panjat Pinang

Introduced to the Indonesians by Dutch colonies as form of entertainment, Panjat pinang or the Pole climbing is one of the oldest most popular tradition in Indonesia.

Climbing a fairly high and slippery pole for present on the top sure not easy. Contestants usually work together and split the prizes.

Although the game might teach people to work together to reach and work hard to reach their goals and some might find it fun to watch too but on the other hand, cutting down the nut-tree also caused the environmental issue and because of its colonial origins- while others want to keep the tradition, some wants to ban the practice are prob some of the controversy surround Panjat Pinang has made this race can not always be found on Independence day celebration in many cities or villages in Indonesia these days? Well, I don't find Panjat pinang on my neighborhood anymore that for sure.

Balap Karung

Another popular race on independence day in Indonesia is sack race or balap karung in local.
This challenging race is not just for kids, people in any age can play it.

Lomba Bakiak

 (Foto istimewa) via geDoor.com

Popular among peoples in central Java, bakiak is traditional sandal made from palm woods with mild foot-binding (slop) from old tires nailed on both side, bakiak is very cheap. Commonly used by women when traveling and was very popular during difficult economic times back then.

So popular that it gave ideas to people to create a race out of it and the bakiak race have become part of tradition races on Indonesian independence day celebration since.

The Bakiak specially designed elongated with two to five slops makes up to 5 peoples possible to wear one bakiak on the same time for the race.

As you can see on the pic above, its not an easy task to walk or run with it together on the same time to the finish line or you will fall.

Lomba makan krupuk

 http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaniav/2788487241/

There's funny saying about cracker rice or krupuk, "not eat rice without krupuk is like a kiss without love" Haha.

This popular cracker is so loved by many locals and its not a surprise if they come up with cracker eating race to make the Independence celebration lots of fun.

There's still many traditions- wish I could post them all, but I am running out of time here so I just highlighted some of them. Ehehehehe :p

It will be interesting to know how you celebrate the independence day at your place, btw. :)

And yay, I am almost 40 minutes away from August 17th here now. I guess its not too early to say Happy birthday Indonesia! Merdekaaaaa!

stay tune for more updates from Mignonesia. #wink

ISLAMIC FASTING: Ramadan

islamicposter.org.co.uk

Found this saying image on the web, pretty much sum up the rule on one of the five pillars of faith for muslim, Ramadan fasting.

Yep, 11 months have passed and muslims around the world are now counting down for the holiest period of the Islamic year.

I personally enjoy fasting and for some reasons, I always miss the month of Ramadan.

As I myself  on my learning process, I did a little research a.k.a browsing hehehe, to gain more knowledge about Ramadan fasting and happy to share what I learned with y'all here.

so what is Ramadan fasting?

Ramadan is ninth month of the Islamic lunar Calender. Every day during this month, all Muslim around the world will spend the daylight hours in a complete fast ; abstain from food, drink and other physical needs.
Ramadan is more than just not eating and drink. Muslim use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance.essentially to clean up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings.

For muslims, fasting is not merely physical but it is rather the total commitment of the person's body and soul to the spirit of fast. This time of the year is time for contemplation, devotion to God and self control. Ramadan is time to think about their who are less fortunate. Another goal of fasting for Ramadan is to experience hunger in sympathy for those without food: it is a way that many Muslims learn thankfulness and appreciation for what they have. Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance.

The Arabic word for "fasting" (sawn) literally means "to refrain" and it means not only refraining food and drink but from evil action, thoughts and words. During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hands must not touch or take anything that they does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obsense words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way every part of the body observes the fast.

Most muslims do not fast because of medical benefits. Muslim are ordained to Fast during the month of Ramadan. Even so there are also physiological and psychological effects as a result of Ramadan fasting such as  lower of blood sugar, lowering of cholesterol, and lowering of the systolic blood pressure besides peace and tranquility for those who fast during the month of Ramadan.

Many adverse effects of total fasting but Islamic fasting is different from such diet plans because in Ramadan fasting, there is no malnutrition or inadequate calorie intake. During Ramadan, everything that is permissible is taken in moderate quantities. Type of food taken during Ramadan does not any selective criteria of crash diet such those which are protein only or fruits only type diets.

In 1994 the first International Congress on "Health and Ramadan," held in Casablanca, entered 50 research papers from all over the world, from Muslim and non-Muslim researchers who have done extensive studies on the medical ethics of fasting. While improvement in many medical conditions was noted; however, in no way did fasting worsen any patients’ health or baseline medical condition.-submission.info

The Benefits of fasting during month of Ramadan are sure numerous. Many lessons Muslims can learn during Ramadan and beneficial for one's entire life if the lessons from this month of self-regulation and self-training are carried on after Ramadan. But although its has been ordained to Muslims in the Quran, Non Muslims might saw some Muslim prefer to skip it.

Well, no one else knows for sure if the person actually fasting as fasting is a special act of worship which only between humans and God.

Ramadan fast lasts 29 or 30 days. When the fast ends (the first day of the month of Shawwal) it's celebrated by a huge festival called 'Id al-Fitr (the Feast of Fast-Breaking). 'Id al-Fitr is celebrate one to three days. On this days Muslims are also encouraged on this day to forgive and forget any differences with others or animosities that may have occurred during the year.

Anyway, I heard kids play fireworks outside my house while typing this. Playing fireworks is one of tradition during Ramadan in Indo. Fun! Fun! Fun!:)

I can type more and more but I need to go now, my first nephew was born today at 1.30pm! Yippeee
He has no name yet tho. O.o His parents apparently are too confuse to choose a name. Haha.
So temporary we decide to call him Suju - you know, Super Junior  hihihi :P
I cant wait to see how he looks like so I will just leave you all with this funny story, ehehehe.

David and Michael got lost in the desert, the were so hungry and thirsty. Suddenly, David sighted a minerat from far. "Thank God, that is a Muslim community, " he said, " But we have to pretend we are Muslims otherwise they will not give us food. When we reach there I will tell them that my name is Muhammad. You have to choose a suitable Muslim name too, " he told Michael. But Michael  insisted that no matter what, he wont change his name. So when they reach Muslim community, David told them his name is Muhammad. But Michael, true to his words, said his name is Michael. The leader of the Muslim community therefore directed his men to get food and water to Michael. He turned to David and said, " Muhammad, you know we are in Ramadan. "

Happy Ramadan. :)

MIGNONESIA- Terimakasih.

Yea you saw it peps, I am definitely dancing right meow! but WHY you asked? Mignonesia have reached  100.000 page views when I typed this last night and this morning oops almost lunch time at my place actually, the count exceeded to 100.051 page views when I posted it. Ahem! Not bad for personal blog, hein? for me it is awesomatic superbetic beybeh. Wowow!

I do not blog for number but I am not writing a diary here either- If I do, I  will likely just hide it somewhere where no one even you can find it, so I lie if I am not happy to see this much page view and its Google counter so I believe it.

This number is so beyond of my expectation. When I joined blogger in December 2008, I have no idea, not even a clue how to get traffic etc etc etc but as time goes by I learn about blogging from articles I found on the net and of course from other bloggers on blog sphere.

I have to say, Mignonesia is one of my favorite place-on the net, besides of course my mind and my home sweet home, Bandung hehehe.

I had sooo much fun on my blog and I have so many to thank for too and my thanks goes to

Google who have provide the free blogging platform service, Blogger.

Those awesome writers I found on the net from where I gain more knowledge about internet, blogging also as sources for many of my blog post.

Through my blog. I've met new peoples, new friends always, almost from every part of the world- thank you so much for connecting and for the friendship.

My fellow blog followers- very flattered to have you here guys and happy to follow you back.

And of course my big thanks goes also to all my blog visitors. Thank you soo much for the visit, for the time you spent on my blog posts and for the kind words you posted on my comments box and all feedback I have received on my blog really  have made  my time and all the work I spent on my blog felt so much worth and rewarding.

I know I am not winning an Oscar and numbers shown on page view counter doesn't always means that my blog has the best quality blog content you find on the net either but I hope when you're browsing and you found my blog post link and decided to click it, you found what you are looking for or at least you feel entertained.
Save your time from browsing more and make your time spent worth are some of goals that Mignonesia wish to reach and apparently it's still way long to go.

Even so, I think I can use the page view counter as indication that Mignonesia got attention from you, the audience and as the author, I personally really appreciate it and it motivate me more to make Mignonesia better and better in the future but right now I just want to say to you all once again in my mother language,

TERIMAKASIH

and awww look look what I got for you guys, special cupcake for you! Eat the cake! :D

I will come back again soon with more updates, where else but here at Mignonesia.
Me and my head is working on it, see? Yep, that's exactly how my brain works. LOL

so stay tune peoples! God bless you all (✿◠‿◠)

HOW TO MAKE A BLOG BUTTON WITH SCROLLING TEXT BOX UNDERNEATH FOR CODE

Blog Button MIG

Hello Fellow Blogger!

Did you see my Linky party on one of my pages?
You have two options to join my Linky party; simply enter your blog/site link OR you can also join my blog hoop instead but you need to have a blog button to join.

Blog button is another way to promote your blog  and bring traffic to your blog  makes a  blog button a must have for blogger so you can exchange it with other fellow blogger.

Don't have a blog  button or don't know how to make a blog button? ah then you are in the right place!

This post is dedicated to all my fellow bloggers who asked me how to make a blog button and also for other bloggers who come across my blog coz today I am going to share-or re share to be exact, how to make your own linkable button  with scrolling text box underneath like my blog button shown on my left side bars.

I already shared this last year but many still confuse especially for new bloggers.

Anyway, the avatar image above you saw is how my button looks like when you grab it by copy its html code and paste it on you blog. To check if it works, click on the image and it will instantly take you away to my blog.

You can have it too on your blog soon as you can make your own button so  you can  either start exchange blog button with other bloggers on blog sphere or host your own blog hoop party on your blog.

This is a very simple and easy tutorial and everyone can do it and- again, I insist you to try to make it yourself even if you're not familiar with HTML/Java script.

This code have been tested for blogger.

Here we go,

✿ In blogger under Layout, choose to add a gadget. Chose HTML/ Java script.

✿ In the title box, type something like 'Get My Button"

✿ Copy and paste the code below into the text box.

✿ Replace the colored information with your blog's information and your button web address.

This is  sample of how the code will look like after you filled in with information.

✿ Save and position your button where you want

✿ Save your changes and view your blog.

And this is sample of gadget should look like on your blog, or like my blog buttons you found on my left side bars.

✿✿✿✿✿✿  TIPS  ✿✿✿✿✿✿

✿ Please check more info on my last post HERE.

✿ How to get web address for your button? get more info HERE

✿ Make sure that there is only one http://before your web address and before the image web address. If you copy and paste you may need to delete an extra http:// in order for the code to work.

✿ You can adjust the height and width of the text boxby changing the value after the row= and cols= in the code above.

✿ When you make blog button or you exchange blog button with other blogger you will not want your button or theirs cost too much space so the standard size for blog button you want to advertise is 150 pixels.

✿ To make blog button you will need to save your image to online photo album- I use photobucket, in order to get internet link for the image.
